August 13, 2016 (Rancho Bernardo) -- The Rancho Bernardo Historical Society (RBHS) plans to introduce its newest exhibit to the public, a replica of a vintage 1880s Mud Wagon Stagecoach. The rollout is scheduled for Saturday, August 20, at the RBHS museum at the Bernardo Winery, 13330 Paseo Del Verano Norte. The 11 a.m. to noon program will feature an explanation by project leaders Rich Thorpe and Phil Ewing of why and how this stagecoach replica came to be built. Also, a keynote speech on the history of roads and transportation in the back country, especially around the old town of Bernardo, will be given by author Charles R. LeMenager.
The construction of the stagecoach was a cooperative venture by the RBHS and the Escondido History Center (EHC), with funds from a county development grant. County Supervisor, Dave Roberts, will accept the thanks of the RBHS President, Nancy Canfield, for the $25,000 San Diego County Neighborhood Development Grant that made the construction of this exhibit possible. The public is cordially invited to hospitality at 10:30 a.m. preceding the program.
The RBHS is a non-profit organization, dedicated to preserving local history and increasing public awareness through programs and outreach. For more information about this organization, please visit http://www.rbhistoricalsociety.org.
