HOSPITAL CONSTRUCTION OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE SEEKS REPLACEMENT MEMBER

January 5, 2011 (La Mesa) -- A volunteer citizens group monitoring construction projects financed by voter-approved public bonds at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa is looking for a new member to replace former member Robert “Bob” Ayres, who was recently appointed to the Grossmont Healthcare District board of directors.

The Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (ICBOC) has been meeting since 2006, when voters approved Proposition “G,” a $247 million bond ballot measure that is providing financing for a number of hospital construction projects scheduled to continue until 2014. The ICBOC group is charged with monitoring Prop. G-related construction expenditures by the Grossmont Healthcare District, a taxpayer-supported public agency that serves as landlord of the hospital, including ownership of the property and buildings on behalf of local taxpayers.

According to Grossmont Healthcare District CEO Barry Jantz, a volunteer with experience in the construction and/or financial industries is being sought to fill the vacancy. Ayres, a retired banking executive, joined the ICBOC in 2008, following an extensive career in banking and construction management. The full ICBOC Committee meets quarterly and sub-committees meet a various times, as needed. Recent ICBOC activities can be reviewed at http://icboc.gafcon.net. ICBOC members serve for no more than two four-year terms, and must have certain qualifications and expertise in project management, construction, finance, medical and labor industries, as specified in the Prop.
