Officer Faces a Difficult Recovery after Sustaining a Gunshot Wound to the Head

August 23, 2011 (El Cajon)--The El Cajon Police Officers’ Association (ECPOA) has opened a benefit account for wounded El Cajon Police Officer Jarred Slocum and his family. Officer Slocum is in critical but stable condition after receiving a gunshot wound to the head during a shootout on August 21st.  A press release issued by the ECPOA describes Slocum, 28, as a "loving father" of two young children and reveals that his wife is expecting a third child.

The ECPOA seeks community donations to assist the Slocum family during this tragic time.

He joined the El Cajon Police Department in March of 2007 and has served the citizens of El Cajon ever since.

After receiving the news of the shooting the ECPOA flew the Slocum family into town, provided them with transportation and continue to offer any assistance they can. In addition, the ECPOA member’s wives have provided meals to the Slocum family in hopes to help ease the burden they are facing at this time.

President of the ECPOA, Kevin Maxwell, states, “On behalf of the men and women of the El Cajon Police Officers Association I would like to thank everyone for their continued support during this difficult time. We are very happy that Officer Slocum is improving. Officer Slocum continues to get better every hour, no doubt in part due to the care and love from friends and family that surround him.”

Officer Slocum was shot in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call.  The suspect, Kevin Collier, shot and killed his 1-year-old daughter and mother-in-law, then set fire to the home.  Collier's body was also found in the burned home.
