December 19, 2011 (La Mesa) -- The death of Leonard
Smith, owner of Leonard Smith Realty on Grossmont Boulevard was confirmed Friday morning, December 16, by his son David.

According to his website, he began his real estate career in La Mesa in 1946. A charter member of the La Mesa Board of Realtors and past president, he was instrumental in organizing their Multiple Listing Service. He maintained a La Mesa office for 50+ years, enjoying a reputation of the highest integrity while specializing in selling fine homes in the Mt. Helix and East County areas.

Charlotte Reed, a Realtor  at Windermere SoCal Realty said,  "I am sure he was the oldest active broker in East County."

La Mesa City Council member, Ernest Ewin, was quoted in the La Mesa Patch saying, “In my opinion, there was not a more honest and fair man. I respected his values and work ethic. He knew our city, Mount Helix and other local areas as if they were his back yard.In a sense, they were. When we would visit a listing, Leonard could tell us the home's history and ownership often from construction to room changes. Leonard loved what he did professionally but not as much as he did his family."

Ewin shared the annual Christmas Card from Leonard and his beloved Grace with East County Magazine. The message:

"One quiet night,
Two hopeful hearts
Brought God's greatest gift
To the whole waiting world."
