February 21, 2012 (Jacumba) – Three-year-old Destiny Pierce is a survivor. Born with no trachea and with organs on the wrong side of her body, she defied doctors’ predictions that she would not live 24 hours and survived heart surgery.

"Mr. Pierce left his job and stopped his education of becoming a nurse so that he could stay at home and take care of his little angel, Destiny,"

said Lorrie Ostrander, a Jacumba resident who started a fundraiser to help the family in this small high-desert town in East County. Anthony Pierce needs a car to transport his "miracle" daughter to her medical appointments.

Destiny’s mother left the family, leaving Pierce to care for both Destiny and her brother on his own, San Diego 6 News reported. He moved to Jacumba, where he has relatives, but needs a vehicle in this remote location.

There are two ways to donate. Checks may be sent to Lorrie Ostrander c/o Anthony and Destiny Pierce, 43577 Old Highway 80, Jacumba, CA 91934. Alternatively, donations to Destiny Pierce may be made at any U.S. Bank using the account number 25348984270 and the bank’s routing number 122235821. For questions, you can also email destinypierce2012@yahoo.com.

Ostrander said $400 has been raised so far through donations sent to her address. “We have a ways to go to fulfill Mr. Pierce’s dream,” she said. “For every nickel and dollar donated, it will help us reach that goal.”

For Pierce, the sacrifices he’s made for his daughter are worth the hardships he’s endured. He told San Diego 6 News, “This is the true meaning of unconditional love. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do for your little ones.”
