April 21, 2009 (Alpine)—East County Magazine’s guests were all winners at
our “On the Road With the East County Eater” party Monday night at the Vine
Wines Bar & Bistro in Alpine. Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful
sponsors, every guest walked (or danced) away with a prize!

Dozens of lucky visitors went home with prizes that included bottles
of wine, dinners at local restaurants, artwork by noted artist Phoebe Burnham,
jewelry, Native handicrafts, plus tickets to local events and venues including the
Sage & Songbirds Festival/Garden Tour, Springtime with the Vintners, Carson & Barnes
Circus, and Lions, Tigers & Bears.

Our thanks to Vine Wines Bar & Bistro for providing hospitality, delicious
food and wines—and to Maddalena Winery for enlightening our guests with tips
on wine-tasting. Paul Nichols’ mellow mix of blues, country and light
rock music provided ideal entertainment. As a special treat, dance teachers
Peggy Diamond and Peter Tworoger demonstrated some elegant ballroom dance steps.
Michelle Little, owner of the Vine Wines Bar & Bistro |
Our East County Eater, Leon Thompson, revealed his identity—and doled out
prizes to guests who correctly answered East County trivia questions as well
as winners of a drawing. Guests pondered such questions as where to spot a
mastodon sculpture in East County, which local town was once known as the turkey
capital of the world, and which upcoming East County Festival features a mass
release of butterflies. (Don’t know? Then you should be reading
East County Magazine!)

If you missed the festivities, don’t despair. E-mail editor@eastcountymagazine.org and
we’ll be sure to invite you to our next “On the Road with the East County Eater”
event—coming soon. If you know of a wonderful restaurant that would
like to help our nonprofit community media by hosting an “Eater” party
in the future—or a great place our voracious Eater should review--please send
tips to leon@eastcountymagazine.org.
East County Chamber of Commerce Education Chair Doug Deane and Bruce Seaman, former teacher's union representative for the Grossmont High School District, were among the guests |
In the meantime, bon appétit!
