March 4, 2016 (El Cajon) -- Tomatomania!, the renowned Heirloom tomato seedling sale, returns to excite an enthusiastic group of gardeners in El Cajon this spring at the Water Conservation Garden, on March 12 and 13.

Last year’s one-day launch became a weekend-long sale this spring, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Tomatomania! features classic hybrids, rare and unique heirloom varieties and everything else needed to have a successful tomato garden this summer. Organic fertilizers, containers, stakes and great advice from the Tomatomania! team are the hallmarks of the event.

“Everyone loves the home grown taste of a fresh garden tomato, and planting tomatoes marks the beginning of spring for many gardeners around the country,” says Tomatomania! producer Scott Daigre. “Each season we showcase classic favorites along with new exciting varieties that we know will excite gardeners and chefs alike.”

The Water Conservation Garden is the only site featuring Tomatomania! this spring, but is one of fourteen event sites throughout California. The Garden is the most fitting place to showcase one of summer’s most drought tolerant vegetables. Tomato success is more about proper water delivery, not copious amounts of water.

The Garden has nearly six acres of displays that showcase water conservation through a series of beautiful themed gardens, such as a native plant garden and a vegetable garden, as well as how-to displays such as mulch and irrigation exhibits. The Garden also features a native butterfly pavilion that is open spring and summer each year.

Tomatomania! first created the heirloom tomato frenzy nearly 25 years ago in Pasadena at a trendsetting nursery called Hortus. Daigre, who now lives in Ojai, worked at the nursery and helped build the event as a mainstay every spring throughout California.
