April 21, 2011 (El Cajon) – Michael Hendricks , 26, died Tuesday from a severe allergic reaction to a bee sting. He had been hospitalized and was in a coma after being stung a week earlier in Alpine. A pastor at East Valley Christian Fellowship, Hendricks is remembered by parishioners for his leadership in teen and youth programs.

Hendricks enjoyed relocating bee colonies without killing them as a hobby. He had been stung only once before, when he became ill but recovered, and was not aware that he had an allergy. A single sting triggered the fatal reaction.

Church member Dustin Rhodes praised Hendricks for having a “true heart” and connecting with others, ECM news partner 10 News reported.

Hendricks is survived by his wife and their seven-week old daughter. A fund to benefit his family has been set up at East Valley Christian Fellowship’s website: http://www.evcf.com/.
