September 5, 2012 (El Cajon) – A man who was struck while crossing the intersection at Fletcher Parkway and Johnson Avenue against a do not cross sign Monday night died yesterday in a local hospital from injuries sustained in the accident.

"The El Cajon Police would like to remind pedestrians when walking at night to wear bright clothing and to obey all designated cross walk signs," Lieutenant Frank La Haye with the El Cajon Police stated in a media release.

Police and Fire Department paramedics responded to the accident at 9:32 on Monday, September 3 in the 500 block of Fletcher Parkway. According to witnesses, an adult black male pedestrian, 62, was crossing the intersection of Fletcher Parkway at Johnson Ave traveling northbound against a do not cross sign, when he was struck by a white SUV Nissan Armada. The victim was in the roadway near the center divider of the eastbound lanes on Fletcher Parkway. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing, a silver hat and carrying several bags and suitcases.

He was transported to an area hospital for treatment regarding his life-threatening injuries, but passed away the next day.

The adult driver of the Nissan Armada immediately stopped after the collision and is cooperating with Traffic Investigators. At this time speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.

This investigation is ongoing and information about the victim is not being released pending family notification.
