Connie Hoagland was seriously injured by a pipe bomb that exploded when she started her vehicle on September 23 in Rancho San Diego after leaving work at a day care center. “Since that time, investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies have uncovered evidence linking Mr. Hoagland to that attempt on his wife’s life,” Brugos said. “In an effort to maintain the integrity of this ongoing investigation, no details, with respect to evidence in this case will be released at this time.”

Lawrence Hoagland co-owns Professional Photographic Services, a studio in the Moreno area, with his wife and two partners, Jim Coit and Dick Van Patten. According to EC news partner 10 News, Coit has not been seen around the office since leaving in an unarked sedan Monday. 10 News went by Coit’s home in Carmel Valley and Van Patten’s in Clairemont Mesa, but no one answered. The Hoagland family has declined to comment on the arrest.

Skyline Church, where the Hoaglands are parishioners, issued a statement saying Connie Hoagland remains “in good spirits” adding that she faces more surgery in the next few days so that she can fully recover. Her injuries reportedly included burns and two broken legs.

The Rancho San Diego day care center on Via Hacienda remains closed, with owners waiting to hear from investigators before reopening.

Neighbors have said that a pipe bomb was found August 30th at the nearby Rancho San Diego Elementary School. Another pipe bomb was blown up by bomb squad personnel just blocks from the Hoagland’s home in Rolando a couple of weeks ago. A pipe bomb was also found at Rancho San Diego Elementary School back in 2006.  Sheriff's officials have not disclosed whether all or some of these prior incidents are related.

A source close to the situation told ECM that the package was addressed to one of the Hoagland's children. Authorities also shut down Highway 94 during their investigation. The Sheriff’s office later reported that the packaged contained party favors, which 10 News reported were ordered for a campus party.
