August 21, 2015 (Anza-Borrego)--California State Parks is scheduled to conduct a limited prescribed burn on park lands today, conditions permitting.  This burn will occur in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park at Carrizo Marsh. The burn will impact travel on roadways in the burn area.

The burn will be managed on site by State Parks staff. Unfavorable weather conditions on the morning of the scheduled burn will force a postponement.

Prescribed burns reduce fuel and overall fire risk while improving natural habitat for native species.

Signs stating "Prescribed Fire in Progress Do Not Report" will be placed on San Diego County Road S-2 for both north and south bound travel directions. Notices will be posted in surrounding communities and campgrounds near the project area indicating that a prescribed fire is planned and/or in progress. The burn will be located in the southern portion of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.

The South Carrizo Creek access road will be temporarily closed to public access at the intersection of Canyon Sin Nombre and Vallecito Wash roads and on the east side in the vicinity of the Carrizo Impact Area during the firing and burnout phases. A Closure Order is in effect and will be enforced for the Carrizo Marsh Area until further notice.

Smoke from the burns is normal and does not need to be reported as State Park staff will be onsite.
