September 1, 2024 (El Cajon) -- East County artists and galleries are banding together to host the 13th Annual Alley Cat Art Walk on Friday, September 13th. This free, family-friendly event will take place on Main Street and Rea Avenue in Downtown El Cajon from 4 to 8 p.m.
Hosted by the art galleries, studios, museums, and small businesses in the Historic Downtown El Cajon District, the Art Walk is an annual celebration of the local art scene. All are welcome to stroll through Arts Alley to see the artisanal craft booths, boutique vendors, children’s interactive art booths, live music and entertainment. All venues participating are within walking distance, making it easy to scope around, shop, and take in all the different mediums and styles.
There will be many exciting new exhibits on display for the event. This year, Sophie’s Gallery will host Table Manners, art inspired by foodstuff and culinary arts. To pair with the exhibit, Sophie’s Gallery will also have a taste of Oktoberfest with beer on tap in collaboration with The El Cajon German Societies. The show will also have live music, as musician Matt DiBiase will provide the sounds of electronic flow on vibraphone.
Sophie's Gallery is a program of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, which serves more than 400 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through nationally recognized, innovative programs. Its mission is to educate and empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to realize their full potential. Intellectual and developmental disabilities include autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other cognitive disorders.
Other special events at the art walk include a collection of vintage neon signs at the East County Arts Association, artist Edith P. Namias’s Works on Paper at Silver Creek Fine Art & Framing, and a juried art contest featuring 30 painted, mosaiced, and decorated cutting boards by local artists on display at Paint & Pallet. All sales of Paint & Pallet cutting boards will be earmarked for a new mural in Downtown El Cajon.
The Historic Downtown El Cajon District has events, mall businesses, restaurants, galleries, museums, and numerous murals to make for a memorable visit. For more information about the event, please visit https://downtownelcajon.com/alley-cat-art-walk/.
