October 6, 2015 (San Diego) - The  San Diego Chorus of Sweet Adelines will go to Las Vegas in October to compete against hundreds of other groups in Las Vegas in an international competition.

The San Diego Chorus will be among thousands of women from all over the world participating in the Sweet Adelines International Convention and competition on October 5–10, 2015, at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The event includes classes, workshops, seminars, rehearsals, and a singing competition that will culminate in a new international champion being crowned on the final day.

The San Diego Chorus currently ranks fifth in the world for regional competitions. Choruses compete as often as every two years, depending on how they score at annual regional competitions. It takes a full 18 months to work up a winning package. This year, due to some rule changes, the ten finalists will be judged far more heavily on the entertainment value of their final set than in past years. The San Diego Chorus' set is a tribute to women in several of their personas: newly smitten, sexy kitten, deeply in love, in love with life, and ready to take charge.

Also in October: Youth Harmony Day

Another important event happening in October is Youth Harmony Day on October 24, which takes place at Lewis Middle School, 5170 Greenbrier Ave., and inspires and teaches the next generation of San Diego a cappella singers.

The San Diego Chorus is teaming up with Pacific Coast Harmony and Sun Harbor Chapters of the Barbershop Harmony Society to present this third annual Youth Harmony Day. The event will consist of an all-day workshop followed by an evening concert. The workshop is open to all secondary school students in San Diego County.

There are two acclaimed teaching quartets presenting for the workshop: C’est La Vie, the 2015 Rising Star young women’s quartet champion, and Flightline, the fourth-place Men’s College Quartet for 2014, which became Far Western District Silver Medal quartet later that year. Students will love to relate to their style and energy. The Pacific Suns young men’s barbershop chorus will also be in the show.

About the San Diego Chorus

Twice named International Champions of Women's Barbershop Harmony, the San Diego Chorus is a highly trained and talented group that has earned more awards, medals, and prizes than any San Diego sports team.  An a cappella show chorus of women singing four-part harmony in the barbershop style, the San Diego Chorus is committed to both local entertainment and international competition, and training and fostering the love of a cappella performance in the next generation.

Dedicated to musical excellence and education, the San Diego Chorus holds a multitude of regional championship titles. In 2014, the San Diego Chorus joined the regional 700 Club by scoring 708 points in the contest that qualifies a chorus to compete internationally in 2015 (the fifth-highest score out of more than 300 choruses internationally).
