August 28, 2012 (Santee)-- The Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a chemical odor at 9457 Carlton Oaks Dr. in Santee. At their discretion they escalated the call to a full Hazardous Materials response.

Among assets that responded to this address were the San Diego Fire Department HAZMAT team, as well as the County HAZMAT team. The

response included a single engine from the Santee Fire Department.

After investigation by HAZMAT officers it was quickly determined that the chemical spill was not a health hazard. What spilled and soaked into the pavement, was an engine chemical solvent, with a strong smell.

According to Deputy Sheriff  S. Parris at this point “the residents and the homeowners association will have to figure out how to proceed with cleanup, since the solvent soaked into pretty porous pavement.”
