April 18, 2022 (Madison, N.J.) - The Aztec lacrosse team (6-8) knocked off Brown (5-7) 14-8 at Fairleigh Dickinson Monday. The game was close until the fourth quarter, but the Aztecs never trailed. Brown pulled within one goal with 10:50 left but then SDSU scored six of the next seven goals to earn their fifth win away from San Diego this season, the most in program history.

“Winning is hard, especially on the road,” Head coach Kylee White said after the game. “We got back to what we are good at, playing connected and loose and then we made some key adjustments, especially on defense where we exploited some matchups.”

 

The Aztecs had four players with at least four points. Deanna Balsama had a team-high six points, which gives her 66 on the year, a new school record (Harlowe Steele, 63 in 2019). Bailey Brown (four goals) Camdyn O’Donnell (two goals & two assists) and Brook Waddell (two goals & two assists).

 

SDSU jumped out to a 3-1 lead with all three goals coming from Balsama. After the Aztecs extended their lead to 5-2, Brown scored twice to cut their deficit to one with 24 seconds left in the first half. Brown finished an O’Donnell assist with eight seconds left to give SDSU a 6-4 lead at the half.

 

Brown pulled within a goal twice, at 7-6 midway through the third quarter and at 8-7 early in the fourth quarter, before the Aztecs pulled away.

 

In the fourth quarter, SDSU outshot the Bears 11-7, had two power play goals and committed just one turnover.

 

Shelby Hook played one of her best games of the season and led the team with five ground balls and had two caused turnovers. Brown and Julia Lytle also caused two turnovers.

 

Goalkeeper Sam Horan collected seven saves and had a save percentage of 0.467.

 

For Brown, Mia Mascon finished with three goals, their only player with multiple goals.

 

STAT OF THE GAME

The Aztecs outscored Brown 6-2 in the fourth quarter.

This was SDSU’s fifth road/neutral win on the year, their most in school history.
