Deanna Balsama tied the SDSU school record for goals in a season (52)

April 10, 2022 (Evanston, Ill.) - The Aztec lacrosse team (5-7) fell to No. 3 Northwestern (12-2) 20-8 Sunday afternoon, snapping their three-game road winning streak.

SDSU had three players score two goals: Deanna Balsama, Bailey Brown and Emma Betts. With Balsama’s two goals, she now has 52 on the year which ties the Aztec school record set by Harlowe Steele in 2019.

After allowing a goal in the first 30 seconds, SDSU and Bailey Brown tied it up at one with 13:45 left in the first but then saw the Wildcats reel off five straight goals to go up 6-1 at the end of the first quarter.

The Aztecs had an 8-5 advantage in caused turnovers, led by Katie Wozencroft’s three.

SDSU goalkeeper Sam Horan had 15 saves.

Northwestern had Lauren Gilbert and Jill Girardi tie for the team-lead with four goals each.
