February 17, 2023 (San Diego) - The Aztec lacrosse team (0-3) fell to Ohio State 10-4 Friday evening. SDSU stayed with the Buckeyes through the first half but couldn’t maintain pace through the second.

"I thought we were competitive, and we were battling," Head coach Kylee White said after the game. "I was really happy with some of the steps we moved forward from the weekend. It’s a Big 10 opponent and they’re gritty, I think we stepped up to the play."

SDSU was once again led in scoring by Deanna Balsama, who netted two goals, while Caitlin Jones and Sara Toner added one each.

Through the first half, SDSU trailed 3-2, but then Ohio State scored seven goals through the third and fourth quarters.

Ohio State outshot SDSU 38-25 and 27-15 in shots on goal. They also had a 12-5 advantage over the Aztecs in draw controls.

Deanna Balsama scored twice and led the Aztecs with two caused turnovers. The other Aztec goals came from Caitlin Jones and Sara Toner. Sydney Wolfington contributed one assist.

Kate Christos led the team with three draw controls.

Goalkeeper Sam Horan had 17 saves.
