March 30, 2022 (Hamden, Conn.) - The Aztec lacrosse team (4-6) won at Quinnipiac (5-4) 13-7 Wednesday afternoon. SDSU had eight different players score and their seven goals allowed were the second fewest an opponent has scored against them.
Playing in temperatures in the 40’s, the Aztecs allowed the first goal and then scored four straight to jump out to a 4-1 lead. The Bobcats then responded with three unanswered goals to tie it up at 4-4.
The Aztecs led 5-4 at the half and then outscored the Bobcats 8-3 in the second half while allowing just 11 shots on goal.
SDSU outshot Quinnipiac 42-33 and 29-19 in shots on goal. They also had an advantage in ground balls (20-15), draw controls (13-11) and caused turnovers (10-6).
Four Aztecs scored multiple goals: Camdyn O’Donnell (3), Courtney Robinson (2), Deanna Balsama (2) and Brook Waddell (2). O’Donnell and Waddell each also had two assists. Julia Lytle, Mia Kohn, Emma Betta and Bailey Brown also scored. It was just the third goal of the year for Kohn and second for Betts.
Lytle led SDSU with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Goalkeeper Sam Horan, who entered the day leading the nation in saves per game, finished with 12 stops. Her counterpart Kat Henselder had 16 saves.
