March 6, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State lacrosse senior Casey Taggart was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week for her exceptional performance in the Aztecs’ 14-8 home victory over Boston University on March 5, as announced Monday evening by the league office.

With her award, the Bay Shore, N.Y., native collected her first career conference weekly accolade and the team’s fourth of the year after senior Kristen Hickey (Offensive – Feb. 6), freshman Taylor Sullivan (Rookie – Feb. 6) and senior Katrina Reeves (Defensive – Feb. 27) received such distinction last month.

Against BU, Taggart led all players with a career-high six ground balls, which is tied for second on the school’s single-game charts, to go along with a personal-best three caused turnovers. She also helped limit the Terriers to one goal in the final 24:17 as San Diego State closed with a 7-1 surge for its third win in a row.

For the season, Taggart has amassed nine ground balls and eight caused turnovers in five appearances, including four as a starter. She has been an integral part of an Aztec defense that has held its last three opponents to single digits in goals allowed, with the Scarlet and Black yielding an average of three goals in the second half in each of those contests.

San Diego State looks to extend its winning streak to four on Friday, March 10, when it plays host to Saint Joseph’s at Aztec Lacrosse Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m. PT.
