September 21, 2023 (San Diego) - The No. 21 Aztec men’s soccer team (6-0-1) continued their unbeaten and shutout streak with a 3-0 win over Utah Tech (3-4-0) on the SDSU Sports Deck Friday evening.

SDSU has yet to concede a goal this season while outscoring their opponents 24-0, which is the best goal differential in the nation and the program’s best through seven matches in program history.

“It took us a little while to get going, but credit to Utah Tech they came to play and made it difficult for us,” Head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match.

The Aztecs scored all three of their goals in the second half with two coming from Austin Brummett, who has a team-high six goals on the year and has now recorded a point in seven straight matches.

Goalkeeper Logan Erb collected another shutout and made three saves, all of which were of the spectacular variety. Erb has yet to allow a goal in her college career, which now spans 552 minutes.

“We pride ourselves on clean sheets,” Hopkins explained. “Erb was fantastic tonight. We don’t give up many good looks like that and it’s nice to know we have a big-time goalkeeper who can come up with big saves in those moments.”

The first half was tightly contested, and Utah Tech outshot the Aztecs 5-1 over the final 23 minutes of the first frame.

SDSU got on the board in the 59th minute when Terence Okoeguale was fouled from behind in the box to set up a penalty kick, which Austin Brummett converted.

Okoeguale was in the middle of the action again in the 78th minute when he had a nifty give-and-go with Alexander Levengood. It was Okoeguale’s fourth goal in the last two matches and Levengood’s sixth assist of the year, which puts him in the top five in the nation in assists per game.

Brummett put the game on ice in the 82nd minute when he finished a breakaway goal in the 82nd minute after assists from Rommee Jaridly and Seth Clark.

THE NOTE I

The Aztecs are one of two teams in the nation yet to concede a goal (Bryant) and their 24-0 goal differential is the best in the nation.

THE NOTE II

Austin Brummett has tallied a point in six straight matches (15 total) and Rommee Jaridly has a five match point streak (9 total).
