September 13, 2016 (San Francisco) - San Diego State’s Jeroen Meefout (Houten, Netherlands) was named the Pac-12 Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for his efforts in the Aztecs’ two home shutouts over UT Rio Grande Valley and Memphis in the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament.  With his selection, the SDSU junior garnered the first weekly league accolade of his career and marked the second consecutive conference honor for an Aztec player this season.

Meefout scored four goals on five shots this past weekend, recording a brace in each of SDSU’s wins to earn the tournament’s most outstanding offensive player award. The 6-4 forward provided the game winner in both contests to help the Aztecs capture the team title at their annual event and remain unbeaten on the year at 4-0-1.

In SDSU’s 3-0 triumph over UTRGV last Friday, Meefout scored on a free kick in the 24th minute and added another goal in the 87th minute with an outstanding individual effort, weaving his way past four defenders before launching a shot from 10 yards away into the back of the net. He capped off his brilliant week in the team’s 2-0 conquest of Memphis on Sunday with a penalty kick in the 32 minute, followed by another dazzling strike in the 89th minute, when he gathered a pass from Debray Hollimon and darted downfield before nailing a blast from 15 yards away on the right side.

Through five matches the season, Meefout leads the Pac-12 in four categories, including goals (4), points (8), goals per game (0.80) and points per game (1.60), and is tied for the top spot in the league with two game winners.

With the victories, SDSU is now 28-7-3 (.776) in non-conference home games since the start of the 2010 season, including a 14-2-1 (.853) mark in the past two years. The Aztecs have posted four consecutive clean sheets and have limited the opposition without a goal in their last 447 minutes and 41 seconds of game action. Including two preseason friendlies, SDSU has yet to allow a score during the run of play this year. As a team, the Aztecs enter the week ranked third in the nation in goals against average (.019) and shutout percentage (0.80).

San Diego State, which climbed two places to No. 11 in the latest NSCAA poll, returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 17, when it travels north to face Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Match time is set for 7 p.m. PT.
