Aztecs open 2016 regular-season slate on Aug. 26

August 16, 2016 (San Francisco) - The San Diego State men’s soccer team was predicted to finish fifth in the Pac-12 Conference after the league announced its preseason poll Tuesday afternoon. The voting panel consisted of the league’s six head coaches.

The Aztecs, who are entering their 12th season as a member of the Pac-12, collected eight points to trail fourth-place California, which received 14 points. UCLA earned four first-place votes and was projected to win the league with 24 points, edging second-place Stanford, which garnered two first-place votes and 21 points overall. Meanwhile, Washington landed in the third spot with 17 points.

SDSU will play host to each of the other five Pac-12 schools throughout the 2016 season, beginning with Oregon State, which was picked sixth in the conference poll, on Sept. 29.

The Aztecs will be in action for the first time this year when they square off against Santa Clara on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Match time is set for 10 a.m. PT at SDSU Sports Deck and admission is free. The real season begins on Friday, Aug. 26, when San Diego State faces UIC in the Gonzaga Soccer Tournament in Spokane, Wash.
