February 8, 2020 (Albuquerque) - The Aztec track and field team’s 4x400m relay team beat the SDSU school record by nearly six seconds to etch their names in the record books.

Jalyn Harris, Danae Dyer, Sakura Roberson and Nyjari McNeil finished in 3:33.81, nearly a full six seconds better than the previous record of 3:39.52 set at last year’s Mountain West Indoor Championships. SDSU’s time gives them the eighth fastest in the nation.

“I believe that in order to do something you have never done before, you have to do something you've never done before,” head coach Shelia Burrell explained after the meet. “We had a lot of personal and lifetime records set this weekend. The women's 4x4 was the highlight of the weekend. Those ladies came together as one unit and did something that has never been done before in SDSU track and field history and we can do it again! It's a good day to be an Aztec.”

Roberson also won the 400m dash with a personal best time of 54.25, the sixth best time in school history.

Jada Moore broke the SDSU freshmen record she just set by finishing the 60m dash in 7.47.

In the 60m hurdles, Asia Smith (8.73) and Neele Schuten (8.58) each set new personal bests in the preliminary round.

THE NOTE I

Sakura Roberson is the lone Aztec that was part of last year’s record-breaking 4x400m team.

THE NOTE II

Three of the top 4x400m relay times in school history have come within the past calendar year.
