Aztec goalkeeper posted second straight shutout vs. No. 1 Akron on Sept. 2

September 6, 2016 (San Francisco) - San Diego State goalkeeper Adam Allmaras (San Diego, Calif.) was named the Pac-12 Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for his performance in the Aztecs’ huge 1-0 victory over No. 1 Akron at SDSU Sports Deck on Sept. 2. With his award, the Aztec redshirt junior received the first weekly league honor of his career and marked the first conference accolade for an SDSU player this season.
Allmaras made two saves against the top-ranked Zips to complete his second consecutive shutout and 12th of his career. The La Costa Canyon High alumnus went high to corral a shot by Akron’s Tyler Sanda in the 16th minute and later preserved the clean sheet with a key stop of Brad Ruhaak’s header following a corner kick in the 79th minute with the Scarlet and Black in front 1-0.
Allmaras, who received all-Pac-12 honorable mention in 2015, has made seven saves so far this season and has allowed just one goal 290 minutes of playing time, holding the opposition scoreless in the last 267:41 of action. He also came through with a 1-0 shutout of Bradley in the Aztecs’ second game of the year on Aug. 28 at the Gonzaga Soccer Tournament in Spokane, Wash.
For the season, Allmaras owns a goals against average of .310, which leads the Pac-12 and ranks 12th in the nation. His .875 save percentage is also tops in the conference.
San Diego State, which climbed 10 places into the No. 13 spot in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings released Tuesday, looks to keep the momentum rolling this weekend when it takes on UT Rio Grande Valley on Friday, Sept. 9, at SDSU Sports Deck in the Courtyard Marriott San Diego Central Tournament. Match time is set for 7 p.m. PT. The Aztecs will then wrap up the event on Sunday, Sept. 11, when they play host to Memphis, starting at 1 p.m. PT.
