April 24, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State lacrosse midfielder Harlowe Steele was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Defensive Player of the Week for pair of exceptional performances in recent Aztec games at UC Davis and Stanford, as announced Monday by the league office.

A native of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, Steele demonstrated her all-round talents in the final weekend of the regular season with a combined six draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers to collect her first career weekly conference honor.

In the Aztecs’ 13-11 triumph at UC Davis on April 21, Steele won three draws and picked up a pair of ground balls to help SDSU clinch a berth in this weekend’s MPSF Tournament. The Aztec sophomore also added one goal and one assist against the Aggies, as the Scarlet and Black tied a program-high with its ninth victory of the year. Two days later at Stanford, Steele continued her fine play, posting three additional draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

For the season, Steele is tied for the team lead with 26 draw controls and has won multiple draws in nine games, including six contests with three. In addition, she has collected at least two ground balls in three straight games and eight times overall this year.

With Steele’s award, the Aztecs have now garnered seven MPSF weekly accolades this year, their highest total ever in a single season. Previously, senior Kristen Hickey (offense/defense) and freshman Taylor Sullivan (rookie) were recognized in the same week on two occasions, earning their honors on Feb. 6 and March 27, respectively. In addition, senior goalkeeper Katrina Reeves (defense) collected her certificate on Feb. 27, while fellow classmate Casey Taggart (defense) was selected on March 6.

Steele and fifth-seeded San Diego State will battle No. 4 seed Oregon in the quarterfinals of the MPSF Tournament on Thursday in Los Angeles, Calif. Game time is set for 4 p.m. PT at McAlister Field on the campus of USC.
