May 15, 2018 (San Diego’s East County) -- Sidewalk CPR Day is set for Thursday, May 17.  The goal of this Southern California campaign is to train approximately 4,000 citizens in “Hands Only CPR,” thus increasing the number of lifesavers in our community.

Sudden cardiac arrest kills over 1,500 San Diegans each year and medical science has proven that community-based CPR programs, designed to teach bystander CPR, has a direct impact on cardiac arrest survival.

On May 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., American Medical Response & Heartland Fire & Rescue personnel will provide Sidewalk CPR training in El Cajon, La Mesa and Lemon Grove.

From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., they’ll provide Sidewalk CPR training at Albertsons, located at 7090 Broadway in Lemon Grove.

Then from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. they will be at Parkway Plaza in El Cajon.

From 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. they will be at Grossmont Center in La Mesa.

This life-saving effort is sponsored in conjunction with San Diego County Health and Human Services, the American Red Cross, the American Heart Association and San Diego Project Heartbeat.

Trained personnel will educate the citizens on when to call 9-1-1, when to use CPR, and how to provide Hands Only Sidewalk CPR, showing them where to place their hands, how deep to push and the rate of compressions.

A SIMPLE METHOD

And VERY easy to perform. Everyone should know how to do this - and attend to other basic medical needs such as bleeding, choking, seizures, etc.
