Rocker turned author to lecture at Cuyamaca College Feb. 14

February 5, 2011 (Rancho San Diego)--Martin Atkins, a rock-music veteran who’s pursued every facet of the music industry from performer to producer during a career spanning three decades, will give a free multimedia presentation on succeeding in the music business 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, in the Cuyamaca College Performing Arts Theater.

Author of “Tour:Smart,” and “Welcome to the Music Business You’re Fu&%#d,” Atkins will offer insights into sustaining a music career and cover topics including sponsorships, geography, guerilla marketing and entrepreneurship in the music industry. The seminar is open to the public.

Atkins, who’s performed with the Sex Pistols’ Johnny Rotten as well as with Nine Inch Nails, and toured the world with his own band, Pigface, turned to the business side of music in the late 1980s, forming his own production companies. He currently teaches courses in music management and marketing at Madison Media Institute College of Media Arts, a private college in Madison, Wisc., with degree programs for the entertainment and media industry. Since writing “Tour: Smart” in 2007, Atkins has spoken worldwide at music industry conferences, universities and for nonprofit organizations.
