SPRING VALLEY CARJACKING SUSPECT DETAINED

March 18, 2016 (Spring Valley) – A man suspected of carjacking a Toyota Tundra at gunpoint last night has been detained, according to Sergeant Pat McEvoy with the Sheriff’s Department.  The suspect reportedly carjacked theTundra from a driver walking to his parked vehicle at a fast food restaurant near Campo Road and State Route 94 in unincorporated Spring Valley around 10:30 p.m.

According to Sgt. McEvoy, the suspect drove off in the victim's Toyota Tundra. Deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station responding to the call observed the victim's vehicle driving near Cuyamaca College in Rancho San Diego and attempted to stop it.

A traffic pursuit ensued from the Rancho San Diego area onto westbound State Route 94 into Spring Valley. The suspect exited the highway on Avocado Blvd and ran from the carjacked vehicle at Calavo Drive and Del Rio Blvd.

Deputies searched the area and found a male matching the suspect description in the area. Possible evidence linking the male to the carjacking was recovered and he was detained. Sheriff's Detectives are still investigating the incident and at this time it is unknown if there are any other additional suspects outstanding.
