February 4, 2015 (Jacumba Hot Springs) -- The state has approved funding for construction of infrastructure improvements at the Jacumba Hot Springs airport . Back in 2012, County Supervisors authorized a co-pay with the state to pave the runway and make other upgrades.

On March 18, the County’s Public Works Department will ask Supervisors to authorize advertising and awarding the construction project, says Michael Khoury, project manager with the department.

“This is a major revitalization,” says Howard Cook, former chair of the Jacumba Sponsor Group, the planning body for the Jacumba region.

The existing runway surface is decomposed granite.  The project will include runway rehabilitation as well as grading and drainage improvements to enhance services to the flying public.

Construction is estimated to begin in June 2016 with completion anticipated in September 2016.
