SUMMER MUSIC & CULTURE FESTIVAL TO ROCK RANCHO SAN DIEGO SUNDAY

August 5, 2010 (Rancho San Diego) - “This has been a very big undertaking,” Valerie Harrison, president of the Rancho San Diego-Jamul Chamber of Commerce, said of the first-ever Summer Music & Culture Festival set for this Sunday, August 8 starting at 11 a.m. in the Water Conservation Garden. “The Chamber has been working on this for nearly a year."  

 

The free event includes performances every hour on the hour, as well as free concert from 4-7 p.m.

 

Watch a KUSI video preview of entertainment including Polynesian fire dancing.  Performances will include flamenco, belly dancers, gypsy-Indian fushion, Polynesian dancers, bossa nova, classic guitar, aborigine, Latin folk rock, contemporary, Jamaican and Reggae music, as well as a magician and a snake charmer. Musicians scheduled to appear include the Shimmy Sisters, NovaMenco, Dion Goetken, the Levi Wise Band, Todo Mundo, Danyavaad, and Pablo Cayambe. There will also be a special “Salute to the Troops.”

 

“Sam Mejia did an amazing job producing the concert,” Harris said.  Mejia is best known for his Johnny Depp "Cap'n Jack Sparrow" celebrity tributes.

The free festival reflects the multitude of cultures found in East County.

 

In addition to music, the event also includes arts and crafts vendors, free food samples provided by Gio Bistro Wine Bar, as well as a beer and wine garden. “ In the future, I’d love to see more Rancho San Diego businesses represented, particularly restaurants,” Harrison concluded. “I’m feeling great about all of the coverage that we’ve got. We are nearly full to capacity on all of our booths.”
