February 24, 2012 (San Diego) -- What if San Diego produced its own electricity with solar on rooftops and parking garage covers?  Imagine if San Diego became its own utility provider—instead of SDG&E.  

That’s exactly what Congressman and mayoral candidate Bob Filner proposed in a brainstorming session with top regional experts at part I of “Forging a Sustainable Future.”  (Part II takes place March 3-4 at San Diego State University. Filner will be among those speaking.)

The implications of his proposals are staggering.

NEARLY 44,000 LOW-INCOME HOMES WEATHERIZED IN CA--3 MONTHS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

 
Reducing Energy Bills for Low-Income Families Across California

 
January 31, 2012  (Sacramento) -- The Department of Community Services and Development (CSD) today announced California has weatherized 43,530 low-income homes three months ahead of schedule under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). This surpasses California’s original goal of weatherizing 43,150 homes by the end of March 2012.

COUNTY HOPES NEW LAW WILL SPUR HOME SOLAR, WIND

Governor signs AB 920 to compensate solar and wind powered homes for surplus energy
 

SAN DIEGO— Owners of home solar and wind energy systems that generate extra kilowatts can soon turn those surplus electrons into compensation thanks to new legislation signed by the Governor this week.

Assembly Bill 920, which earned strong backing from Chairwoman Dianne Jacob and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, allows electric utility customers who install solar or wind generation systems on their properties to be paid by their electric utility for the surplus electricity they produce.
