December 27, 2011 (San Diego's East County) -- Lakeside teen Matthew Parish, 17, has been identified as the victim killed December 21 in an El Cajon accident.  According to the Medical Examiner's office, Parish was apparently riding his skateboard in the 1200 block of Jamacha Road when he was struck by a vehicle.  There are conflicting news reports indicating he may have been walking across the street and carrying his skateboard when he was hit.

The driver, who was not cited, reportedly told police that he could not see Parish, who was wearing dark clothing.  Death was confirmed at the scene by emergency personnel.

Pedestrian accidents in our region have risen significantly in recent months.  The tragedy highlights the importance of wearing light or reflective clothing when walking, biking, or skateboarding after dark.
