November 18, 2017 (La Mesa) – A Go Fund Me page has been set up to restore funds stolen during the PTA Halloween fundraising carnival at Lemon Avenue Elementary School in La Mesa.

“A COWARD stole approximately $3000 that was locked up in the office after the tired volunteers left for the weekend,” wrote Jason Garcia, who started the Go Fund Me drive.  “This money directly impacts the ability for teachers that provides basic necessities such as pencils and papers for the children of our community.  As many know, teachers don’t get paid the highest pay, but they are now facing not even receiving $100 to help with their classroom budget.  I hope you can find it in your hearts to donate anything possible to make up for this loss.”

The money stolen included funds for the Lemon Avenue garden project.  The carnival was the PTA’s main fundraiser of the year.

All money will go back to the PTA so the children can continue with regular activities and parents not having to spend extra for smaller activities, the page states.  Garcia has indicated on a community online forum that new security procedures are being implemented to prevent such loss in the future.

Thus far, the site has raised about $340 of the $3,000 goal.
