Aztecs finish their 44th annual Aztec Invite

March 25, 2023 (San Diego) - The Aztec track and field team wrapped up competition on Saturday at the 44th Annual Aztec Invitational.

The Aztecs got off to a great start in the 1500m run to start the day. Jessica Kain set a new personal best with a time of 4:20.63, earning a first place finish. Lauren Harper, Vanessa Cabello, and Tatum Zinkin all competed as well, finishing in fifth, tenth, and twelfth respectively.

As for hurdles, Danae Dyer represented the Scarlet and Black, placing fourth with a time of 13.60 seconds while Charlize James followed close behind in eighth (14.01) and Ruthie Grant-Williams in 37th (16.14).

Shaquena Foote and Sydney Bentley both raced in the 400m, earning fifth and ninth place respectively with times of 54.00 and 55.19.

Four Aztecs, Jada Moore, Aisha Watt, Danae Dyer, and Alexus Alexander, competed in the 100m dash. Moore placed fourth with a time of 11.73, Watt in eleventh (11.98), Dyer in twelfth (12.00), and Alexander in 27th (12.46)

In the 800m run, Alex Lomeli earned a spot on the podium after running 2:11.00, placing second and earning a new personal best. Vanessa Cabello also competed, earning 20th and finishing in 2:19.75.

Wrapping up the individual running events, Rhea Hoyte competed in the 400m hurdles, placing eleventh with a 1:01.63 finish.

The Aztec 4x400m relay team of Alexander, Dyer, James, earned another podium spot for the Aztecs and placed third the event in a time of 3:39.17.

Jenna Fee Feyerabend earned a fourth-place finish for the Aztecs in the high jump after she cleared 5’08.75 (1.75m). Thalia Wilson (5’03.00 (1.60m)) and Ruthie Grant-Williams (5’01.00 (1.55m)) also competed placing eleventh and 23rd respectively.

In the pole vault, Corey Friedenbach vaulted 11’08.50 (3.57m), earning a twelfth-place finish.

As for shot put, Jenna Fee Feyerabend, Erica Grotegeer, and Thalia Wilson all competed. Fee Feyerabend placed 16th with a heave 42’11.75 (13.10m), a new personal best, while Grotegeer and Wilson followed in 19th  (41’02.50 (12.56m) and 20th (41’01.00 (12.52m)), a new personal best for Wilson.
