October 17, 2009 – The City of El Cajon has issued a traffic advisory for October 17, 21 and 24 due to pouring a concrete foundation for the City’s new Public Safety Center downtown.  Some streets around City Hall will be closed during the high volume concrete pour.

There will be reduced lanes along Magnolia Avenue between Civic Center Way and Wells Avenue. Park Ave will be closed down, all 3 days, with local vehicle access for court parking and residents coming from Ballantyne Street. The City anticipates pumping and pouring approximately 8,500 cubic yards of concrete within these three days, and utilize about 300 trucks per day to get the job done. The work will occur between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, Wednesday, October 21, and Saturday, October 24.

The two-foot thick foundation will carry the entire weight of building and will sit beneath the elevated water table. A tower crane standing 130 feet tall has been erected in the center of the project. It will be used for the duration of the project in handling materials on site and will be dismantled towards the end of the project.
