March 12, 2010 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Police have arrested Gustavo Lugo, 54, a transient living along Highway 125. He was booked Friday for one count of annoying/molesting a child, a misdemeanor, and has not yet been charged by the District Attorney’s office, Lt. David Bond told East County Magazine.
The suspect was walking in the same location where a female student was accosted one day earlier while walking on Fletcher Parkway to Parkway Middle School.

According to a Union-Tribune story, a stranger attempted to hug and kiss the girl.  The man and girl were spotted by a vice principal as he was driving to work. He immediately stopped, picked up the girl and drove her to campus and called police. The girl was not injured.

Officers went to the school Friday morning and found a man matching the suspect’s description walking in the same location where the teen was accosted. “He is not a sex offender registrant,” Bond told East County Magazine. The number of registered sex offenders living in La Mesa varies from the high 60s to low 70s, he has said.
