May 11, 2016 (La Mesa) - The Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County region and Alzheimer’s San Diego, a local, independent nonprofit organization providing care and support for San Diego families, will jointly present “Living in the Moment: A Workshop for Caregivers,” from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 17 at Foothills United Methodist Church, 4031 Avocado Blvd., La Mesa. Admission is free.

The workshop will discuss how improvisation, the act of responding to a developing situation or problem without preparation and making it up as you go, can be a useful skill for caregivers when caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia. It will help caregivers learn new techniques for responding and connecting to a person who is experiencing confusion or disorientation by letting go and joining them in the moment. Speakers will include: Amy Abrams, education and outreach manager, Alzheimer’s San Diego; Vanessa Elle, Yes Living, a personal counselor and improvisation  instructor; Chris Nielson, a coach specializing in improvisation, entrepreneurship, sales, leadership, parenting and masculine practices.

To RSVP for this workshop, call (858) 492-4400 or visit www.alzsd.org. Alzheimer’s San Diego is a local nonprofit organization providing free programs and services to the more than 60,000 San Diegans suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and the additional 150,000 people who love and care for them, while helping to advance local research for a cure.
