VALLECITO LIGHTNING FIRES NOW 100% CONTAINED

August 19, 2012 (San Diego’s East County) – Seven lightning-sparked fires that burned more than 22,000 acres are all fully contained, Cal Fire reports this morning. No structures were lost, though four firefighters were injured.  Below are full details on the fires provided by Cal Fire.

  1. Stewart            Acres:  10,632   Containment:  100%  E/of Hwy 78, S/of Grapevine Canyon                     
  2. Wilson             Acres:  11,669   Containment:  100%  S/of S22, W/of  Borrego Springs
  3. Vallecito          Acres:  519       Containment:   100%  E/of Hwy 79, N/of Anza Borrego State Park
  4. Cooper                        Acres:  3            Containment:   100%  Chihuahua Valley Rd., E/of Hwy 79          
  5. Wynola            Acres:  3            Containment:   100%  Hwy 79 at Wynola
  6. Porter              Acres:  2            Containment    100%  Near Vulcan Mountain
  7. Shoots             Acres:  <1          Containment    100%  West of Cooper Fire

Current Situation: Remaining fire crews will continue to mop up hot spots and patrol the fire perimeter. The California State Parks and Recreation and the CAL FIRE Suppression Repair Team is working to mitigate the effects of fire control activities and prepare for potential erosion due to forecasted precipitation. Significant demobilization of firefighting resources continues.  Firefighters and equipment will be working along roadways, please use caution in the area.

Road Closures:  All roadways are open.
