Attendees Eligible to Win Home Landscape Re-Design

March 18, 2010 (El Cajon) -- San Diegans are invited to attend this year’s spring gardening season kick-off event on Saturday, March 20, 2010. The Water Conservation Garden, in partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric will open the spring planting season by offering a large variety of elegant drought resistant plants and providing expert gardening advice.

The Water Smart Plant Fair will feature expert seminars on exotic options for drought tolerant gardens, ideas on gardening with native plants, information on creating a greywater system to irrigate the landscape, and thorough explanations on how to start your own water conserving garden.

A large selection of water smart perennials, shrubs, trees, grasses, cacti, succulents and more will be on sale from Southern California vendors at reduced prices! Come learn insider details on plant care, and how gardening can improve an outdoor patio’s aesthetics and ambiance, while offering water saving benefits—a topic of ongoing importance as the region’s water shortage continues.

Numerous activities are available for children, including Ms. Smarty Plants® and the Magic of Water and a children’s activity booth. This year’s festival appeals to all ages, from the elderly down to the next-generation gardeners with music, food and Air Superiority’s beautiful birds of prey on display. Landscape designers will offer individualized, 20-minute consultations about home landscape design ($15 Members, $20 Non-Members). Master composters will reveal how easy it is to turn garden waste into gardener’s gold, and a professional arborist will provide expert tips on tree care.
