A Salute to Jimmie Johnson at the next Cajon Classic Cruise Car Show!

The Next Cajon Classic Cruise Car Show Is July 12

See beautiful classic vehicles during the 2017 Season of Cajon Classic Cruise Car Shows every Wednesday night, now through October 25. The theme of the July 12 car show is a special “Salute to Jimmie Johnson!” Car shows are on East Main Street between Magnolia and Claydelle Avenues, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  This popular car show is held in the area of the Prescott Promenade in Downtown El Cajon and is hosted by the Downtown El Cajon Business Partners. Blood Drive at the Public Safety Center

The El Cajon Police Department will hold blood drive on Wednesday, July 26, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Public Safety Center located at 100 Civic Center Way. To schedule your appointment, please go to www.redcrossblood.org and use sponsor code ElCajonP.  Lifesaving blood donations are low during the summer, please donate if you can.

Submit a Nomination for El Cajon Veteran of the Year

The City of El Cajon Veterans Commission presents a “Veteran of the Year” Award, recognizing those who go above and beyond in serving their community through their leadership abilities and/or community service in El Cajon, making a big impact on those they serve.  Final selections will be based on dedication, commitment, and demonstrated impact of those served.  If you see, hear, or know of a veteran who has gone the extra mile to improve the quality of life in the community, please take this opportunity to acknowledge and reward that effort.

The following criteria is required for an individual to receive this special award:

  • Been honorably discharged from the U.S. Military or National Guard –documentation required
  • City of El Cajon resident
  • Made significant contributions to the community since their discharge
  • Not a current Veterans Commissioner

To nominate someone, complete a nomination form and return it to the City of El Cajon Recreation Department. Please visit http://tinyurl.com/ElCajonVeteran to download the nomination form.  Nominations will be accepted now through September 15, 2017. The Veterans Commission will make a final selection and notify the award recipient and his/her nominators by the last week in October.

The individual selected for this award will be recognized on November 11, 2017, during the Veterans Day Celebration at the Veterans Memorial in front of City Hall.  They will also be presented with a “Veteran of the Year” award plaque and proclamation during the El Cajon City Council Meeting on December 12.  Additionally, a perpetual plaque will be displayed in the lobby at City Hall and a press release showcasing the award recipient will be distributed to all local media.  For more information, please contact the City of El Cajon Recreation Department at (619) 441-1754.

St. Madeleine’s Haute with Heart Fashion Show

It’s the 40th Annual Haute with Heart Fashion Show benefiting St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center.

Date: Saturday, August 19

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Location: Hilton San Diego Bay Front Hotel, 1 Park Boulevard, San Diego

Haute with Heart Fashion Show highlights professional models and the community of St. Madeleine’s dressed in the latest fashions on the runway.  This event also features fabulous boutique shopping, live and silent auctions, opportunity drawings, luncheon, a heartwarming performance from the Center’s students, and free parking!

Proceeds raised at our Fashion Show benefit the unique programs St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center offers to over 400 adults with developmental disabilities (e.g. autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy. For more information or tickets, please visit www.stmsc.org, or call (619) 442-5129, ext. 115.

Visit the Knox House Museum

Take a fascinating look at El Cajon history!  The Knox House Museum, at 280 North Magnolia, in El Cajon, will be open for tours the FIRST and THIRD Saturdays of the month between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Admission is free!  Come and tour the oldest commercial building in El Cajon and learn a little more about El Cajon’s rich history. Great Summer REC Programs Now Available

The summer edition of the City of El Cajon Recreation Guide is now available online at www.elcajonrec.org. Copies of the guide are also available in the lobbies of City Hall and the El Cajon Police Station, and at local libraries.  Summer classes are very popular - register early before classes fill up!  For more information, call (619) 441-1516.

General Information:

July 11 and 25 - El Cajon City Council Meetings are at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., as needed.  Meetings are held in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center Way. For more information, and to view the full agenda online, please visit www.cityofelcajon.us.

July 13 - Stop by El Cajon Farmers’ Market - Every Thursday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  The Farmers’ Market also offers a wide variety of fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables, fresh baked bread, vendors, music and more. July 14 and 28 - Alternate Friday closures for El Cajon City offices.  Please go to www.cityofelcajon.us for a full calendar of office hours for City offices during 2017.

August 4 - Free Summer Movie in The Park will be “Moana” at Renette Park beginning at dusk. Renette Park is located at 935 Emerald Avenue in El Cajon.  Free family and youth activities start at 5:00 p.m. For information, please call (619) 441-1678.

Remember to stay hydrated - drink plenty of water, avoid drinks with caffeine (coffee/tea) and alcoholic beverages which all dehydrate the body.  Make sure your pets are safe, with shade and plenty of cool water.  Please remember - never leave your babies/children, the elderly or your pets in your vehicle - NOT EVEN FOR A MOMENT!  Please stay safe!
