January 16, 2016 (El Cajon) – Following a three mile pursuit of an allegedly stolen red Toyota with several people inside, the driver reportedly rammed two law enforcement vehicles.  El Cajon Police opened fire, killing a woman passenger and a dog, 10 News reports.

Officers spotted the stolen vehicle in the 1300 block of Main Street at 1:25 a.m., according to Lt. Frank La Haye.  The vehicle refused to stop and fled onto Second Street, then westbound Interstate 8, reaching speeds of 90 miles an hour.

The vehicle exited onto West Main and drove to Pierce Street, a cul-de-sac, then made a U-turn and drove towards approaching officers.

“The officer, fearing for his life, fired four rounds at the suspect vehicle, which continued ramming into two police cars before stopping,” La Haye said, according to 10 News.  East County Emergencies posted on Facebook that one of those vehicles was a California Highway Patrol vehicle.

The driver was arrested for suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer and felony evading arrest. Two other men in the vehicle were arrested on narcotics charges.

The wounded woman was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where she later died. Both the deceased victim and the driver reportedly had felony warrants.  The woman and dog were reportedly seated on the passenger side of the vehicle.

If you have information on these crimes, you are urged to call El Cajon Police at  (619) 579-3311 or Crime Stoppers tip line at (888) 580-8477.
