“PAINT THE TOWN RED” FOR SDSU HOMECOMING WEEK- OCT. 10-12

October 5, 2012 (San Diego) -- Mid-October is Homecoming week for San Diego State University. This year’s homecoming theme is “Paint the Town Red”--something the Honorary Chair and Grand Marshall for the festivities – The Show – knows all about!

SDSU will host several events starting Sunday, Oct. 7 and leading up to the homecoming football game against the Colorado State Rams on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 at 3:45 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium.

Below are a few featured events:

Wednesday, Oct. 10 – SDSU Gives Back – San Diego Blood Bank

9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., South Campanile Walkway, SDSU campus:

Aztecs bleed Red & Black! The San Diego Blood Bank will be set up for the Aztec Homecoming Blood Drive.

Thursday, Oct. 11 – Homecoming Pep Rally

12 p.m., Campanile Walkway & Hepner Hall, SDSU campus:

A campus wide parade and pep rally featuring this year’s homecoming Honorary Chair and Grand Marshall - The Show! SDSU Cheer team and band, and the Aztec Warrior among others will be at this spirit-packed event. There will be a live DJ and tons of free giveaways!

Thursday, Oct. 11 – Honoring Aztec Patriots

Sundown, at the bottom of Aztec Green near the SDSU trolley station:

Throughout the night, Aztec alumni and student veterans will stand watch at the War Memorial for an overnight vigil. There will be luminaries that spell out the letters S-D-S-U on which the names of each of the fallen Aztecs listed on the War Memorial will be written.

Friday, Oct. 12 – War Memorial Ceremony

9:30 a.m., War Memorial, SDSU campus:

The SDSU Alumni Association’s annual War Memorial ceremony will take place to honor fallen Aztecs and those who served during our nation's military conflicts. This year’s event features a special tribute to an Aztec Patriot lost in war and finally added to the memorial, Robert Gordon Harvey. There will also be a special display featuring letters received from servicemen, servicewomen, and their families during the Second World War. These letters were collected during WWII by Lauren Post, a former professor of geography and WWI veteran. SDSU has more than 1,200 active duty and veteran students.

Friday, Oct. 12 – Aztec for Life Homecoming Celebration

7 p.m., Parma Payne Goodall Alumni Center, 55th Street across from Viejas Arena:

SDSU hero and NFL Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk will host the 55th annual Aztec for Life Homecoming Celebration. Faulk will be honoring Aztec for Life and past SDSU president, Dr. Stephen L. Weber. The event will benefit the Marshall Faulk Foundation. Other notable guests: Bud Black, Michael Cage, La’Roi Glover and Freddy Keiaho.

Friday, Oct. 12 – Madness on the Mesa

9 p.m., Viejas Arena, 55th Street:

Aztec Nation celebrates the start to the basketball season with the first official practice. Meet the men’s and women’s basketball team players and coaches. The event will feature music, skill competitions, student contests, and giveaways, and the top three homecoming commercials will also be shown at this event!
