FANS INVITED TO CELEBRATE AZTECS SATURDAY AT SNAPDRAGON STADIUM

April 7, 2023 (San Diego) – A celebration to honor San Diego State University’s men’s basketball team after its historic run to the NCAA championship will be held Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium in Mission Valley.  The team made the final four for the first time in the university’s history.

Parking and tickets are free, though fans must claim tickets in advance at https://am.ticketmaster.com/sdsu/2023MBBCelebration.

November 14, 2017 (San Diego) - San Diego State and the American Red Cross are partnering to play host to the Aztecs for Life Blood Drive, presented by California Coast Credit Union, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Viejas Arena. Multiple SDSU groups and associations have joined forces with the goal of collecting 400 pints of blood during the 10-hour event.

June 6, 2017 (San Diego) - The Mountain West Board of Directors today approved the recommendation by the league’s men’s basketball head coaches to name the conference’s top coaching honor after former San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher, who retired in April. The recipient of the award beginning in 2017-18 will be the Steve Fisher Coach of the Year.

SDSU STUDENT GUNN YANG WINS U.S. AMATEUR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP, EARNS START AT MASTERS

August 21, 2014 (San Diego)—Gunn Yang, a sophomore at San Diego State University, became the second Aztec ever to win the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship in Georgia. Only Gene Littler back in 1953 has matched the feat, Go Aztecs reports.

Yang joins an elite list of professional golfers whose names are engraved on the Havemeyer Cup, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods.

Orientation events greeted the newcomers, along with over 5,000 parents and guests, with information on class registration and degree requirements, tips for success--and the SDSU Fight Song.

February 13, 2014 (San Diego Xavier Thames, senior guard for the San Diego State University Aztecs,, is among 30 NCAA Division I men's basketball players up for the 2013-14 Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club has announced.

Naismith is one of two players representing schools from California and the Mountain West division.  Thames' midseason player-of-the-year candidacy is his second after being named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List last month.

AZTEC BASKETBALL TICKETS ON SALE STARTING MONDAY; SEASON STARTS NOV. 1

   
 

October 23, 2013 (San Diego) -- A limited quantity of San Diego State men's basketball single-game tickets will go on sale on Monday, Oct. 28, at 9 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at GoAztecs.com, by calling 619-283-7378 or by visiting the Aztec Ticket Office at Window E at Qualcomm Stadium.

There are no single-game tickets available for games against Arizona and UNLV, but fewer than 100 remain for the rest of the Aztecs' home slate, including dates against 2013 NCAA tournament teams Boise State, Colorado State and New Mexico. There are also less than 100 tickets left for SDSU contests vs. perennial powers Washington and Utah State.

June 12, 2013 (San Diego)--San Diego State junior Shanieka Thomas won the national title in the triple jump to lead the 23rd-ranked Aztecs at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday in Eugene, Oregon. She became the fifth individual national champion in program history and second straight, joining Whitney Ashley, who won the discus throw at the 2012 championship meet.

Thomas, who finished runner-up in the event at both the 2013 indoor meet and 2012 outdoor meet, beat the other 23 entrants with a best of 46 feet, 4 ¾ inches (14.14 meters).

WHAT'S ON TAP THIS WEEKEND IN AZTEC BASEBALL

SDSU will be on the road this week for Mountain West play with a three-game series at conference foe New Mexico beginning Thursday, March 28, at 2:05 p.m. (MT) at Lobo Field in Albuquerque. The Aztecs and Rebels will also meet in singles games on Friday (March 29) and Saturday (March 30) at 2:05 p.m. and 1:05 p.m. respectively. The games were originally scheduled to be played at Isotopes Park, but have been moved to the on-campus Lobo Field with all three contests being played in the afternoon. The series runs Thursday through Saturday due to Easter falling on Sunday (March 31).

SERIES RECORD

SDSU leads its series against New Mexico by the count of 98-61. The Lobos have won 18 of the last 25 meetings between the teams dating back to the 2008 season. That mark includes the Lobos winning five of six during the 2012 regular season as well as the contest between the teams in the championship game of the 2012 Mountain West tournament. San Diego State has a record of 63-27 vs. UNM in San Diego, 31-30 in Albuquerque and 4-4 on neutral fields.
