SDSU STUDENT WINS NATIONAL TITLE FOR DISCUS

July 7, 2012 (San Diego) – San Diego State student, Whitney Ashley has become San Diego State’s fourth national champion since 1985.  She won the national title in discus throw on the first day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa in June.

Ashley, a media studies student at SDSU, defeated 23 other entrants in the discus with a toss of 196 feet, 10 inches.  The mark, a school record, Mountain West record and a U.S. Olympic Trials “B” standard mark, came on her fifth of six throws.
