April 17, 2016 (San Diego) - It was a beautiful day for baseball and a series finale as the Padres took on the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Patrick Corbin started on the hill for the DBacks and Robbie Erlin for San Diego.  Unfortunately, it looks like the Padres’ military jerseys are cursed.

The scoring started in the first with Yasmany Tomas’ two-run homer and the snakes took the lead, 2-0.

They ruined their lead in the Padres’ half of the first, however, with a terrible defensive start.  Wil Myers led off with a single, Cory Spangenberg bunted and reached first on a DBacks error to make the score 2-1.  Matt Kemp hit it to left and Rickie Weeks Jr. couldn’t make the catch, which resulted in another Arizona error and Spangenberg scored to tie the game at two.

In the third, Melvin Upton Jr. committed another heroic act and tripled to score Kemp to give the Padres a 3-2 lead.

But that didn’t last long.  In the fourth, Brandon Drury hit a two-run blast off the auxiliary scoreboard in left center and the DBacks regained a 4-3 lead.

In the sixth, Tomas hit a solo homer to extend the snakes’ lead to 5-3.  Jake Lamb grounded out and scored Drury and the DBacks led 6-3.

In the eighth, the DBacks tacked on one more run on Phil Gosselin’s solo homer to win the game 7-3 and the series two games to one.

The Padres have a day off on Monday before the Pittsburgh Pirates come to town on Tuesday.
