April 22, 2014 (Alpine)—Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of Lakeside resident Kimberly Renee Hayes. According to Lt. Glenn Giannantonio with the Sheriff’s homicide unit, Hayes was murdered in an apartment in El Cajon on March 8; the next morning her body was dumped and set on fire on a dirty road off Sequan Truck Trail in Alpine.

The suspects arrested, all from El Cajon, are Jessi Mendoza, Matthew Williams, Jennifer Stein, and  Lauren Huett.

“It appears the motive for the murder is related to the victim’s attempts to gain custody of Stein and Mendoza’s newborn child,” a release issued by the Sheriff states.  It is unclear what the relationship was between the suspects and the victim.

Mendoza, 29, is charged with murder and arson.  Williams, 30, and Huett, 33, are charged with conspiracy and accessory to murder.  All three were arrested at an El Cajon motel on April 18.  Stein was arrested at the Santee Sheriff station April 19 and charged with conspiracy and accessory. All four resided in El Cajon.
