March 2, 2016 (Rancho San Diego)—Construction on a sewer replacement project along Campo Road through Rancho San Diego is slated to begin this summer and continue until spring 2018.  The project extends from Avocado to the Rancho San Diego Town Center near Cuyamaca College along the State Route 94 right-of-way.

Most work on the two-year project will be done at night between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to lessen impacts on traffic, staff from Otay Water District have indicated.  Construction will also be restricted from March through August to protect birds from disruption during nesting season.

The $7 million Campo Road sewer replacement project by the Otay Water District will replace 1.75 miles of 10-inch-diameter sewer main with a new and larger 15-inch sewer main. The old line can no longer provide adequate capacity for sewer flows in the area, the district states. The new pipeline will reduce potential for sewer overflows and the new alignment will allow the district to build and maintain the pipeline without disturbing sensitive environmental areas, according to a flyer provided by the district. Once the new pipeline is in service, the old line will be removed or filled with concrete and abandoned in place.
