February 13, 2018 (San Diego) - The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced that San Diego Sockers Kraig Chiles and Chris Toth were named to the Team of the Week for Week 16. For both players, it is their second such honor this season. Brandon Escoto was placed on the Honorable Mention list.

GOALKEEPER:
Chris Toth (San Diego Sockers) – Toth showed up in a big way for the San Diego Sockers when they faced off against the offensive juggernaut of Soles de Sonora. Toth made 19 saves (.905 save percentage) in holding his opposition to only three goals.

DEFENSE:
Dylan Hundelt (St Louis Ambush) – Dylan Hundelt had a four-point weekend in Week Sixteen. On Friday, the defender scored a goal and added an assist as the Ambush beat long-time rival, the Kansas City Comets. Hundelt followed that up on Saturday with two more goals as his side nearly took down the Cedar Rapids Rampage.

MIDFIELD:
Anthony Arico (Florida Tropics) – The Florida Tropics are only half a game out of playoff position thanks in part to Arrico’s efforts over the weekend. The Tropics’ midfielder scored a second-half hat-trick against the Harrisburg Heat.

Tony Donatelli (Baltimore Blast) -  The MASL’s Game of the Week between Donatelli’s Blast and the Milwaukee Wave lived up to the hype as the fierce rivalry provided plenty of action. Donatelli helped his side come out the victors with an assist early in the fourth quarter to give Baltimore a brief lead, then scored the game-winning goal with eight seconds left in the game.

FORWARD:
Kraig Chiles (San Diego Sockers) – San Diego’s star forward Kraig Chiles helped his team to two big wins and a five-point weekend. The veteran forward scored a hat trick on Friday night on the road against the Tacoma Stars, then returned home to score the first two goals in the Sockers win against Soles de Sonora.

Franck Tayou (Soles de Sonora) – Tayou continues to distance himself from the rest of his MASL goal-scoring peers. He now has 54 goals on the season, only three shy of the record he set last season. Sonora’s goal-scoring extraordinaire scored five goals and two assists at home against the Turlock Express before heading up to San Diego and scoring two more goals on Sunday.

HONORABLE MENTION:
Piotr Sliwa (Florida Tropics), Lucio Gonzaga (Harrisburg Heat), Adriano Dos Santos (Baltimore Blast), Phibo Arriaga (Cedar Rapids Rampage), Christian Gutierrez (El Paso Coyotes), Brandon Escoto (San Diego Sockers), Edgar González (Monterrey Flash), Erick Flores (Monterrey Flash), Joey Tavernese (Syracuse Silver Knights).

The MASL Team of the Week is selected using the Stars awarded at each game and by soliciting nominations from each team. Players nominated by teams were each awarded three points and stars were awarded 3 points (1st Star), 2 points (2nd star) and 1 Point (3rd star) respectively.
