July 17,2023 (Borrego Springs) -- The community of Borrego Springs is now served by San Diego County Fire through its partnership with CAL FIRE. County Fire increased staff to expand services to the area.

“Borrego Springs Fire Station 60 will remain an Advanced Life Support Station and added resources will strengthen the ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies, ensuring the safety and well-being of those in the community,” states a press release from the County.

The release adds,  “County Fire and CAL FIRE also welcome 14 members of the Borrego Springs Fire Protection District to the team. County Fire recognizes the fire protection legacy of the district and looks forward to working together to serve the Borrego Springs community.”

The action comes after the Borrego Springs Fire Protection District, founded in  1961, filed an application with the Local Agency Formation Commission to dissolve. According to the resolution, the cost of providing services has increased at a greater rate than the increase in revenues available to fund firefighting and paramedic ambulance services.

The district has been working with the County Fire Department on annexation of the district’s territory and continuation of services to area residents.
