May 6, 2017 (San Diego) - With last night’s ninth inning still fresh in their minds, the Padres took the field again tonight, hoping for a better result.  Clayton Kershaw started on the mound for the Dodgers against Clayton Richard for the Padres.  Good luck with that.

And luck the Padres did not have; the Dodgers, as always, gave Kershaw plenty of run support and Kershaw, as always, held the Padres at bay.  Starting in the fourth, Cody Bellinger’s single to center scored Justin Turner.  Austin Hedges made an errant throw on a pickoff attempt, causing Franklin Gutierrez to score.  Yasiel Puig, who was batting anyway, singled to center to score Bellinger and it was 3-0 Dodgers after four.

Enrique Hernandez made some noise in the fifth with a line drive double to left that scored Turner and Chris Taylor and it was 5-0 Dodgers.

The Padres took a while to respond, but finally did in the eighth with Ryan Schimpf’s solo homer to make the score 5-1 Dodgers.

But the Dodgers pulled further away thanks to a wild pitch by Miguel Diaz in the ninth that score Joc Pederson and it was 6-1 LA.  Then, Bellinger put the cherry on top with a grand slam to right center that drove in four runs and the Dodgers led 10-1.

The Padres tried a rally in the ninth when Turner committed a throwing error, causing Jabari Blash to come home, but the other, lighter blue team prevailed and won the game 10-2 to give them the series.

These two will play the rubber match tomorrow at 1:40 p.m.  Brandon McCarthy will start on the mound for the Dodgers against Trevor Cahill for the Padres.
